Hello all and welcome to my website. I’m very excited to have it up and running.

When the brilliant Liz at Bookwebs was building it for me, she asked me to email over a picture.

This was to prove far more challenging than I originally imagined.

I blithely took a few selfies, hopeful that one of them would do the job. The results were rather disappointing. I looked  a)  like a potato dug up last year; b) like I’d had a serious stroke; c) I had jowls to rival a basset hound.

I called in the expert (my 12 year old son) and asked for his advice. He set me up working at my laptop at a table in the garden, against the backdrop of our vegetable patch, walked backwards about 20 paces, and put the resulting image in black and white.

“It’s very nice,” I said doubtfully, “but you can’t really see me. I’m just a speck in the distance.”

“Exactly, mum,” he replied, with his cheeky, slightly toothless grin (he’s at that stage).

I contacted a friend of a friend, who is a professional photographer. She scoffed at the notion of selfies, and recommended a session with her hair and make up artist followed by a stint in her studio. Clearly at 50 getting a decent photo is a serious business.

I will find a good photo eventually. It just may not be of me…
